But our recent web design for The Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League (MWUL) was truly a race against time. Read on to hear this exciting tale! About The Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League
The Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League was founded in 1999 with a mission to “empower people of color to achieve economic self-reliance, parity, power, and civil rights.” As the Delaware chapter of the National Urban League — “the nation’s oldest and largest community-based movement devoted to empowering African Americans to enter the economic and social mainstream” — the MWUL is guided by the values of Equity, Advocacy, Inclusion, and Community. A Tricky Situation
Working with this awesome client was a breeze, and the end result could not be better, but we ran into a rather tricky situation during the actual web design process. The existing MWUL site had outdated themes, and old and abandoned plugins. It was not secure and also not working well. While building the new website, the old site remained live, and it was also about to crash while our client was in the middle of a major end-of-year fundraising campaign—in other words, the absolute worst time for the site to go down.
An Incredible Save
In a true race against time, the team at Aliya Hammond Consulting was prepared to help! We sprung into action, quickly moved MWUL to a new host, and got their existing site back up and running while simultaneously working on completing a new and improved website for our client. This was a temporary fix, and we still needed to move fast. Many of the old plugins were still not working properly, and their old site was hanging on by a thread.
Reaching The Finish Line
In the end, our client was able to focus on the organization’s fundraising goal, while we focused on what we do best. And we are happy to report that we were also able to get everything done before MWUL’s annual meeting!
