The Women’s Business Enterprise Center believes that “diversity promotes innovation, opens doors, and creates partnerships that fuel the economy.” Serving as an advocate for women business owners and entrepreneurs in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Southern New Jersey, WBEC-East is one of 14 regional partners of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), offering world-class certification, educational programs, and networking opportunities that foster growth and connections between certified women’s business enterprises (WBEs) and purchasing entities, including major corporations and government agencies. WBEC-East also assists corporations in creating and building supplier diversity programs. According to The Harvard Business Review, supplier diversity programs “promote an inclusive approach to procurement” and include traditionally underrepresented and underserved groups, including minority-owned and women-owned businesses.
Today, Aliya Hammond Consulting is proud to announce that our President and CEO, Aliya Hammond, has been selected as an Envoy for WBEC-East. “Envoys serve as ambassadors and help certified WBEs learn how to leverage the organization and their certification.” They also help “build connections by welcoming new WBEs through direct outreach and encouraging and moderating conversations at in-person WBEC-East networking events,” as designated by WBEC-East. Aliya states that she is honored by the invitation to serve in this capacity, to work with her fellow Envoy Committee members, and to be a mentor to women entrepreneurs and certified women-owned businesses.

About WBENC Certification
Founded in 1997, WBENC is now “the most widely recognized and respected national certification for women-owned businesses in the US” and an approved third-party certifier for the SBA’s Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) Federal Contracting Program. According to WBENC, “certification validates that a business is at least 51 percent owned, controlled, operated, and managed by a woman or women.” To become certified, business owners “undergo a thorough vetting process, including review of business documentation and a site visit.” As such, WBENC is considered “the gold standard for women-owned business certification.”
WBENC reports that, through certification, “women-owned businesses gain access to a vast network of support, including targeted business opportunities for certified women-owned firms, increased visibility in corporate and government supply chains, education and development programs to spur growth and increase capacity, and networking and mentorship opportunities with thousands of women entrepreneurs and those who support them.”
