The Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation supports the Free Library of Philadelphia as a center for learning and opportunity in every neighborhood for every Philadelphian and beyond, playing a vital role in funding and stewarding numerous programs, special collections, and resources not covered by Philadelphia city taxes. As the Library’s fundraising arm, the Foundation needed to differentiate itself from the Library, a well-established institution, and they asked the team at Aliya Hammond Consulting for help.
The Problem
Before working with Aliya Hammond Consulting to develop a website and establish an online presence of its own, the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation had five pages buried on the Library’s website, making them virtually invisible to the public and potential donors. Change was necessary to combat confusion caused by this issue and to better advance the message and mission of the Foundation to support the Free Library. Aimed at potential donors and supporters, this new site needed to be engaging, modern, and visually appealing, with a narrative-driven approach.
The Solution
Our team developed a dynamic new website for the Foundation with a focus on encouraging donor engagement and support. In addition to telling the Foundation’s story, with in-depth information on the Foundation’s mission, vision, and community impact, the site highlights the programs the Foundation supports, membership programs, and volunteer opportunities, with clear calls to action for donations and involvement. Included are media updates, success stories, profiles of board members and staff, and a professional blog to drive website traffic and establish thought leadership.
The Design
The Foundation’s new website is a vibrant space featuring a bold color scheme, eye-catching images, and enhanced multimedia elements for richer content interaction. Scroll effects, such as diverse illustrations of children and adults reading a book that slides to the right in the website header of each page, place an emphasis on visual storytelling. A straightforward layout allows guests to easily access information about Foundation-funded programs, upcoming events, and how to help support the Foundation’s mission. As visitors view the website, they are also provided with an excellent user experience featuring:
