Facebook might have been one of the first social media platforms, but headed into 2020, it’s still the dominating marketing tool. With nearly 2.5 billion users worldwide, Facebook crosses multiple demographics, making it a go-to tool for marketers to reach a diversified audience.

In the 2019 Industry Report by Social Media Examiner, 61 percent of marketers said Facebook was their first choice for social media marketing, with Linkedin and Instagram coming up behind. But how do you revamp your Facebook marketing strategy for 2020?

#1: Match your brand and goals.

The best way to make sure your marketing strategy is on track is to ensure that it matches your brand and goals. While not new for 2020, this is something to evaluate as each new year begins.

It can be so easy to end up lost or overwhelmed in the possibilities of social media marketing. Ask yourself: Does your Facebook page align with your brand? How does it help you achieve not only your marketing goals but also your business goals?

Your Facebook account shouldn’t be there “just for fun” or for hard-sell posts about new products or services. It should be part of your overall strategy for building customer engagement and trust in order to grow your business — and achieve your yearly goals.

To achieve this, you need to first have a cohesive brand identity, a solid marketing strategy, and clear goals. Once you know what defines your brand, you can align your social media marketing to fit within your strategy, whether that’s developing a voice and visual style, or creating an engaging post schedule that carries your message.

#2: Think about mobile.

Mobile-friendly ads and posts cannot be overlooked. In January 2019, Statista found that 96 percent of Facebook users accessed their account through a mobile device — that’s nearly two billion people. So, it’s important to ensure that text, images, and graphics look just as nice on a mobile screen as they do on a computer screen.

When deciding on an image or video (or creating one), make sure it fits the appropriate ad dimensions. Best practices say it should be square or a 5:4 ratio. When placing an ad, limit the amount of text on an image, graphic, or video. Facebook has started to reject ads that they deem to have too much text.

Captions need to be concise, since you only have a few lines before your post or ad cuts off into a “Read more…” button. Any writer knows that you need a strong first sentence to capture an audience, and this includes post or ad copy. What about your text is going to make someone stop scrolling and keep reading?

#3: When in doubt, get help.

When it comes to thousands of people viewing your content, don’t you want to put your best foot forward? Hiring a social media manager can help you align your brand and goals, track progress, improve the “Return on Investment” (ROI) for ads, and further your social media strategy with the knowledge of best practices. You’re the expert of your business, and hiring a professional and experienced Social Media Manager allows you to focus on what you do best.
