It’s a new year, which means it may be time to update your social media marketing strategy. The advent of TikTok and Instagram’s recent shift to video content has revolutionized online marketing, and this has become increasingly difficult for businesses to ignore.

Short-form videos help to reach a wider audience while boosting engagement and adding variety to content pillars. At the same time, long-form videos are a must for small business websites and entrepreneurs looking to become thought leaders in their industry.

Video can be a powerful tool for building brand awareness and the “Know, Like, Trust Factor,” as well as generating leads, reaching new customers, and helping them to better understand your products/services. Don’t believe us? Check out these recent facts and stats!

Algorithms are prioritizing video content.

On many of the top social media platforms, it’s become a central focus that algorithms are prioritizing video content. Brightcove reports that, “Video gives a 157% organic traffic increase from search engine results pages.” Yes, you read that right—157%!

Social media platforms are seeing the signs.

According to Social Insider, “Experts predict that in 2023, TikTok will amass up to 840 million users.” It’s no wonder Instagram is trying to keep its own users from abandoning the platform for TikTok by switching from photos to short-form video. Even Facebook is trying to get in on the action, with the addition of Reels

Video is generating leads and helping brands get new customers.

Videos are highly effective at generating leads and helping brands get new customers. “94% of marketers agree that videos have helped increase user understanding of their product or services” according to Wyzowl. This ultimately leads to a purchase that may not have happened otherwise.
