In a recent blog, Connecting Entrepreneurs With An Impactful Website, we told you all about the new web design we developed for the Philadelphia Women’s Network Connection (PWNC). As the founder of the PWNC, Felicia Shanken is committed to helping women looking to transition into growing a business as full-time entrepreneurs. Social media coaching has helped her to do just that by teaching her the best practices needed to reach and connect with her target audience.

The Philadelphia Women’s Network Connection

Felicia Shanken describes the Philadelphia Women’s Network Connection as a premier women’s networking group that offers everything from mentorship and business building courses to hosting virtual and in person events. “We help professional business women and solo entrepreneurs who lack exposure in the marketplace to learn how to find untapped resources to grow their business, and make connections that get proven results.” But what about growing her own venture

Having An Aha Moment

After connecting with Aliya Hammond online through LinkedIn, Felicia Shanken set up social media training sessions with Aliya for members of the PWNC. After realizing she would benefit from more intensive marketing knowledge herself, Shanken signed up for social media coaching with Aliya. Through these coaching sessions that were offered by the Women’s Business Enterprise Center East | WBEC-East (wbeceast.com), Shanken learned that she needed to take a step back and identify her target audience.

Felicia Shanken’s overall goal when promoting PWNC on social media has always been to let professional business women know that they are not alone. This turned out to be easier said than done prior to coaching. Shaken notes that, thanks to Aliya, she learned her biggest mistake was trying to market on “all the social media platforms.”

“Once we did that, the marketing fell into place,” said Shanken. “I was fortunate to have Aliya coach me in a few sessions on the importance of marketing through social media. It was then that I had my aha moment as to why our engagement wasn’t where we wanted it to be. I was focusing on too much at one time. When I narrowed down my marketing…I saw the difference in my results.”

Taking A Targeted Approach

Going from all the social media platforms down to four, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn, made all the difference for the Philadelphia Women’s Network Connection. Taking a more targeted approach when developing a social media strategy allowed Shanken to focus her efforts on the sites frequented by her unique demographic.

Additionally, Shanken began to take advantage of Google Analytics in order to better understand her target audience. As mentioned earlier, PWNC also updated their web design to present a more professional, branded look. This new and improved website also offers a better user experience for visitors that includes the ability to sign up and pay for any event right on the site.

Becoming An Industry Leader

Felicia Shanken tells us that PWNC has seen more engagement since Aliya’s coaching sessions. “People are also staying longer on the website, which is just what we wanted.” In fact, she has been able to build quite a name for herself as an industry leader through her newfound social media skills. “I never thought that I would see the day where I would start turning down requests to be interviewed for a podcast, digital interview or magazine.”

We are happy to announce that PWNC has recently been recognized as an Economically Disadvantaged Women Owned Small Business (EDWOSB), certified by the Small Business Administration of the Federal Government. This means PWNC can bid on government contracts that are set aside specifically for this accreditation. Not bad for an organization that is a little over three years old!

To quote Felicia Shanken, “The most valuable lesson I learned through Aliya’s coaching is to be consistent, market your business through social media everyday, and also engage with your clients. I always say, if you don’t talk about your business, then people don’t know you are in business. And if they don’t know, then you don’t have a business.” For more information on the Philadelphia Women’s Network Connection, click here.
