In a recent training session with the Norristown Chamber of Commerce, Aliya Hammond Consulting gave a crash course on planning social media goals and improving online marketing strategies. Business owners and employees were able to consult with social media trainer, Aliya Hammond, in order to help with their social media marketing and promotions.

Here, we’ll give a brief overview of what was covered, and break down what you need to know in a clear and concise manner, to get you quickly on the path to a better social media strategy.

Why have a Social Media Strategy?

With 2.8 billion people using social media at the end of 2016 (according to Hootsuite’s Global Overview), having a strategy to reach your audience is key. While a social media strategy can seem like an abstract idea, in reality it’s a plan that incorporates anticipated growth, engagement goals, and brand objective. It looks at what you can do to further your brand identity and how you can reach more people. Here are three steps you can take to develop your social media strategy, including participating in social media strategy training with a consultant.

What does Social Media look like in your business?

Do your research. Know what you are aiming for with social media. While social media can seem like a chore that you don’t have time for or don’t want to do, it can be very impactful for your business. According to a Hootsuite study, 41 percent of Americans think it’s important that business and organizations they interact with have a social media presence, and almost 60 percent interact with a business through social media for customer service needs. Those customers and prospective customer want to see a well-organized, consistent social media presence.

Researching how other businesses in your field handle social media is a great place to start. Note what you like about these pages and what you don’t like. Think about what your brand identity is and how these aspects can work for you and your social media goals. Then, make a plan for your social media strategy.

What are your goals and objectives?

Have measurable goals and objectives for your social media strategy. Whether it’s growing engagement or increasing your followers, social media platforms have analytic tools to help you track the progress of your goals. The main platforms — even Instagram (business accounts) — have analytic tools that can break down information about impressions, link clicks, follows, and much more. Some platforms can even tell you about your followers’ patterns and demographics.

Goals and objectives should work within your brand identity to promote your business and create a message. Social media marketing managers can help you develop a brand identity through training services, and meet your goals and objectives.

Social media training services can help you identify your strongest platforms and build up the ones that you might not understand as well. Education is the key to advancing your social media strategy.
