Often, we talk about the quality of the content you put out on social media as a driving factor for engagement. However, timing also plays a key part in getting content in front of current or prospective clients and customers.

Timing is two parts: the day of the week and the time of the day. These two pieces are crucial to planning out your social media schedule. Luckily, you don’t have to guess either of these pieces.

We’re here to help make figuring out timing easier. Here are the best times (both the day of the week and time of the day) to post on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

Facebook

In a June 2019 study, the Pew Research Center gathered data about the demographics and use of social media. They found that 74 percent of Facebook users check their account(s) daily—that’s 1.8 billion users of the total 2.45 billion Facebook users are active on their account(s) every day.

Now, no matter how amazing your content is or how well timed you post, you won’t hit 1.8 billion users. However, there’s no reason you can’t connect with as many people as possible. Depending on what market you’re in, these stats might change a little, but overall the middle of the week between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. are the best times to post. Sundays and early mornings are the worst time.

Twitter

A platform ideal for customer care, Twitter is an opportunity for brands to connect with fans directly. While time is important for all social media platforms, timeliness is of the utmost importance for Twitter. This social media platform doesn’t sort content based on engagement—it’s seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

Again, early to mid business week are the best days to post. Hootsuite suggests Monday to Wednesday, depending on your industry, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The worst day was Saturday between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.

Instagram

While Twitter is all about the now, Instagram also uses timeliness to sort content. However, it’s balanced with content users are likely to engage with—meaning it uses the recent posts of engaging brands. This visual social media platform needs to engage users with the newest posts.

Weekdays, in general, are the best days for most industries. However, some industries also see an uptick on Saturday late mornings and early afternoons. Across all industries though, Sundays and late nights (11 p.m. to 3 a.m.) were the worst times to post.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn has a more specific audience than any other social media platform, although the network has been growing substantially. This means the niche market is worth investing the time into it.

The best times to post on LinkedIn are Tuesday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Considering the professional audience of LinkedIn, this isn’t surprising. Also not surprising, the worst day to post is on Sundays or anytime between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m.
